Maps, routines and the Workshop
Change where Hana lives and what her day looks like:
- Maps: a 3D place (made in Blender or any 3D program) that replaces her island. Her day moves there: she eats at the map's table, sleeps in its bed, reads by its lamp.
- Routines: a daily plan, like "wake at 9, read on the veranda at 11…". Her diary follows it too.
- Music: your own songs in the background. See Music.
Everything is in ⚙️ Settings → World. Imported files stay on your PC and are never uploaded, unless you share them on the Steam Workshop yourself. She can move back to her island, or back to her own day, at any time.
Move her to a map
- ⚙️ Settings → World → Where she lives → + Import a map (.zip or .glb), or + From a folder.
- Pick the map in the list. She moves there and lives her day in it.
- To bring her home, pick her island again.
A map can bring its own music, which plays while she's there (you can turn it off). A plain .glb 3D model without map settings works too: she then lives around its middle, without knowing where things are. That's a quick way to try a model.
Want to build one? See For creators.
Give her a routine
- ⚙️ Settings → World → Her day → + New routine.
- Edit the rows: a start time and an activity for each (+ Add an activity for more). Optionally pick a place, and the weekdays the routine covers.
- Save, then pick it under She follows.
On days your routine doesn't cover, she lives her own day. Export saves a routine as a file to share; + Import a routine (.json) reads one. If something's wrong in a file, Okaeri says what and where.
All activities and the file format: For creators.
The Steam Workshop
When you start Okaeri from Steam, Settings → World also has a Steam Workshop section.
Get maps and routines:
- 🛠️ Browse the Workshop opens Okaeri's Workshop page in Steam. Subscribe to what you like.
- Back in Settings → World, press ↻ Refresh. Subscribed maps appear under Where she lives, routines under She follows. Steam downloads them in the background; if one is still downloading, Okaeri says so.
Share your own:
- Press Share… next to your map or routine.
- Enter a title, a description, the visibility (public, friends, unlisted or private) and a change note, and confirm the upload rules.
- The preview picture is the map's own preview if it has one, otherwise a simple title card.
Shared items show Update on Workshop afterwards. The first time you share, Steam asks you to accept the Steam Workshop legal agreement; until you do, your item stays hidden.
Upload rules
Only share what you made yourself or have the right to share. No models, maps or music ripped from games, films or other creators, nothing copyrighted that isn't yours, no adult content. Items that break these rules get removed, and Steam handles copyright complaints.
Models (her look) and your own songs can't be shared on the Workshop. A map's own music can, if it's yours or properly licensed (for example CC0, or CC BY with credit in the description).
Is it safe?
Workshop items in some other games have been used to spread malware, usually by hiding programs or scripts in them. Okaeri is built so that can't happen:
- Data only. Maps and routines are settings files, 3D models, pictures and audio. Okaeri never runs anything from an item: no code, no scripts, no web pages.
- Checked every time. Each file is checked when an item loads: only known file types and names, each checked by its contents (a "model" must really be a 3D model, music must really be audio), with size limits. Anything else is refused.
- Banned items are skipped. Items Steam has banned don't load.
- Shares are rebuilt. When you share, Okaeri uploads a fresh copy with only the checked files.
