Music
Hana loves music. She plays the piano, the guitar, the ukulele and the kalimba, and she can play your own music softly in the background.
Piano
Some evenings she sits down at her piano by the sea and plays. Ask her any time:
- "Play the piano"
- "Play Clair de lune for me"
- "Something by Chopin"
- "Play something romantic"
- "Surprise me with a song"
- "Stop playing"
Her hands follow the notes, whatever model she uses. The piano is synthesized in the app (nothing to download), and it gets quieter the farther away you are.
Her songbook
🎹 Songbook at the top opens her songbook, wherever she is (pick a song and she goes to the piano or picks up the right instrument). While she plays, its icon shows her instrument:
- 54 pieces everyone may play: Clair de lune, the Raindrop Prelude, Träumerei, The Entertainer, Rondo alla Turca, the Gymnopédies, waltzes by Brahms and Chopin, lullabies, Sakura, Christmas carols and more.
- Grouped by mood: 💕 Romantic, 🌙 Dreamy, 🎈 Cheerful, 💤 Bedtime and 🎄 Christmas.
- A search box for a song or composer.
- 🎲 Surprise me: she picks one herself.
- 🔈 Volume for her piano.
- + Add a song (.mid): your own MIDI files. They stay on your PC; ✕ removes them again.
- ⏹ Stop playing.
Hover a song to see where its notes come from. All songs and their sources: Music credits.
When she picks for herself
She never plays the same few songs over and over: she goes through many before one comes back. She chooses by the time of day: calm songs late at night, cheerful ones in the morning, romantic ones in the evening, and carols in December.
Guitar, ukulele and kalimba
| Instrument | When she plays it | Ask her |
|---|---|---|
| 🎸 Guitar | Some evenings by the campfire | "Play the guitar" |
| 🌺 Ukulele | Sunny afternoons on her swing | "Play Aura Lee on the ukulele" |
| ✨ Kalimba | Late evenings on the veranda | "Something on the kalimba" |
She holds each instrument on her lap or in her hands. Her fretting hand moves along the neck to each chord, and her strumming hand keeps time. The sound is synthesized in the app too.
While she holds an instrument, the songbook button shows its icon, and the songbook opens on that instrument's tab:
- Guitar: Tárrega's Lágrima and Adelita, the Spanish Romance, etudes by Mertz and Carcassi, Greensleeves, Hard Times Come Again No More.
- Ukulele: Oh! Susanna, Aura Lee, Clementine, Twinkle, Twinkle, Sakura, Ode to Joy, Jingle Bells.
- Kalimba: Twinkle, Twinkle, Brahms' Lullaby, Amazing Grace, Silent Night, Ode to Joy, Sakura, Frère Jacques.
🎲 Surprise me on an instrument tab picks any of its songs. "Stop playing" ends any instrument.
She sings 🎤
Ask her to sing and she sings without words, like humming a tune you love: "la la la", "lu lu", "pa pa ra" or a soft hummed "mm~".
| Ask | She'll |
|---|---|
| "Sing me a song" · "Sing something cute" | pick a song for the moment and sing it for you |
| "Can you sing Twinkle Twinkle?" | sing that one, if she knows it |
| "Hum something" | hum quietly |
| "Sing your song" | sing one she wrote herself (see below) |
| "Stop singing" | stop (and stop writing a song for a while, if she was) |
She sways to the beat with her hands together at her chest (a little bounce on cheerful songs) and closes her eyes on long notes. Her mouth follows every syllable, whatever model she uses. Her singing voice is made in the app, so there's nothing to download, and a phone that's listening hears it too. Now and then she also hums to herself while she gardens, sweeps or cooks. To make her singing louder or quieter, use ⚙️ Settings → Voice.
The 🎤 Sing tab in her songbook lets you choose what she sings.
Songs she writes herself 💝
Some afternoons she sits on the veranda with her notebook (and some evenings at the piano) and writes a song, the way a real songwriter does:
- She thinks for a moment, then tries a phrase out loud.
- Some tries she doesn't like ("No, not like that…"), so she tries again. The ones she keeps, she writes down: the notes really appear on the page.
- When the song is finished she plays it once and gives it a name, like "Koi Pond Lullaby" or "Rainy Afternoon Waltz".
Ask "Write a song for me" and she writes one for you, named after you.
How does she write them? With a little composer built into the game. It follows real songwriting rules: a key and tempo that fit the mood, chords for every bar, a melody that comes back varied, phrases that answer each other, and a proper ending. A dash of chance makes every song new. It works offline, with no recordings and no online music service, and every song has notes for both hands, so she can really play it, sing it and write it down.
Where her songs are:
- 💝 Her songs, at the top of her songbook (🎹 at the top). Pick one and she plays it on the piano, or on her guitar, ukulele or kalimba where it fits. On the 🎤 Sing tab she sings it.
- Her diary mentions the songs she wrote, and she remembers them when you talk about them.
- Songs she wrote while you were away are waiting for you, with a little note when you come back.
- Don't like one? Delete it from her songbook with ✕ and she won't write it again.
Your own music
Play your favorite songs softly while she lives her day:
- ⚙️ Settings → World → Music → + Add songs.
- Pick mp3, ogg, m4a, wav or flac files (up to 40 MB each).
They play shuffled, and quieter while she talks.
- 🎵 Music (top right) pauses your music exactly where it is. Press it again and it carries on from the same spot, even after you restart the app.
- When she plays an instrument or dances to a dance's own music, your music waits and then comes back.
- A map can bring its own music, which plays instead while she's there (you can turn that off).
- Your songs stay on your PC. Only you hear them; they're never uploaded or shared.
On your phone
When she's on your phone, her instruments and your music play there too.
Dances
She can also dance to motion files you give her, with their own music. See Dances.
