Genshin Impact characters (official models)
HoYoverse publishes official MMD models (.pmx) of Genshin Impact characters for fans. Okaeri loads them directly: no Blender and no converting, just pick the downloaded .zip or its folder. She keeps her own personality and memories; only her body changes. To make her talk like the character too, give her a character card (see the end).
Only for personal use
These models belong to HoYoverse, and their terms allow non-commercial fan use only. Keep imported models on your PC, don't share or sell them, and don't use them in paid streams or for anything R-18. Okaeri never uploads them. This isn't legal advice; details are below.
Quick start
- Download the official model from one of these:
- the official Genshin Impact (原神) Bilibili account: space.bilibili.com/401742377. Model links are posted with each version's creator campaign.
- HoYoverse's official uploads on 模之屋 / APlayBox: aplaybox.com/u/680828836. The account is free; signing up may ask for a phone number.
- Fan index sites like mmdfr.fr/genshin-mmd link to those official pages.
- Make a new character (⚙️ Settings → Her → + New character), so your Hana keeps her look and memories.
- ⚙️ Settings → Her → Import a model (.vrm / .zip)… and pick the downloaded
.zip.- Got a
.raror.7z? Right-click it → Extract All (Windows 11 opens both), then use Import a model folder… and pick the extracted folder (the one with the.pmxfile and thetexfolder). - Garbled file names or white textures usually come from the Chinese file names inside the official zips. Okaeri reads them correctly when you import the original
.zip.
- Got a
- Done. She uses the model on her island and on your desktop, and it's saved for next time. Back to built-in look switches back.
What works and what doesn't (yet)
| ✅ All her poses and activities, walking, sitting, gestures, head pats | MMD models stand in an A-pose; Okaeri converts that automatically |
| ✅ Blinking, lip sync, smiles, surprise, anger, sadness, blushing | When the model has the usual MMD face shapes (まばたき, あ/い/う/え/お, 笑い, 怒り, 困る, びっくり, 照れ). Chinese-named ones are matched too |
| ✅ The MMD toon look, textures, sphere maps | |
| ⏳ Hair and skirt physics | Not simulated yet, so her hair stays still. Planned |
| ⏳ Holding props (book, tea cup…) | Works, but props may sit slightly off on very different body sizes |
If Okaeri says a model "doesn't use the standard bone names", it isn't a standard MMD rig. Try another release, or convert it to VRM (below).
Better quality: convert to VRM (optional, about 20 minutes)
VRM models get swaying hair physics and tuned expressions. Free tools:
- Option A: VRMify (Windows, no Blender). It automates the T-pose, bone mapping, expressions and physics. It's new and unsigned, so Windows SmartScreen will warn you.
- Option B: Blender, the most reliable route:
- Install Blender, then the add-ons from Edit → Preferences → Get Extensions: MMD Tools and VRM (VRM Add-on for Blender).
- File → Import → MMD (.pmx) with the default scale 0.08. Keep the
texfolder next to the.pmx. - Select the armature → sidebar (N) → VRM → Humanoid → Automatic bone assignment. It understands MMD's Japanese bone names. Check hips, legs and fingers.
- Expressions: map blink → まばたき, aa/ih/ou/ee/oh → あ/い/う/え/お, happy → 笑い, angry → 怒り, sad → 困る, surprised → びっくり.
- Spring bones: add spring bones for the hair and skirt.
- License info: fill in the VRM meta. For HoYoverse models set avatar permission: only author, commercial use: personal non-profit, redistribution: not allowed, modification: prohibited, and put the official model page as the license URL.
- File → Export → VRM (VRM 1.0 works in Okaeri).
- Common problems:
- 12× too big: the model was imported at scale 1. Use 0.08.
- White textures: garbled file names after extracting. Extract with Bandizip or 7-Zip using Chinese encoding, or import the original zip into Okaeri instead.
- Twisted legs or arms: MMD "D" and twist bones. MMD Tools' Merge bones or VRMify handles them.
- Outfit toggles gone: only face shapes carry over to VRM.
The license, in plain words
The terms of use (使用规约) come as a readme with each model, and each character's file differs slightly, so read the one in your download.
Allowed: non-commercial fan works, including fixing physics, weights or expressions, recoloring, and small outfit changes.
Not allowed:
- sharing the model or its parts
- commercial use
- R-18, gore and extreme content
- anything that harms the characters or other people
HoYoverse keeps the copyright and has the final say.
Using it privately in a desktop companion isn't mentioned either way; the terms were written for fan videos. Using your own downloaded copy on your own PC, without sharing it or earning money with it, is low-risk but not explicitly permitted.
So, never: upload these models anywhere, put them on the Steam Workshop, or use them for monetized streams or videos.
The official Honkai: Star Rail and Zenless Zone Zero models come with similar terms.
Make her talk like the character
⚙️ Settings → Advanced → Her has character card fields: description, scenario, greeting, example dialogue and instructions. Describe the character's personality there, or import a character card (.json/.png) made by the community. Keep it in the same spirit: for yourself, not for sharing.
