VRoid and VRM avatars
VRM is the standard file format for anime-style 3D avatars. Any .vrm model works in Okaeri: make your own for free, or use one whose creator allows it.
Make your own in VRoid Studio
VRoid Studio is a free character maker for Windows and macOS, made for people who have never done 3D before.
Install VRoid Studio from Steam (free) or vroid.com/en/studio.
Click Create New and pick a female base model.
Customize:
- Face: eyes, eyebrows, mouth.
- Hair: pick a preset hairstyle and recolor it, or draw hair by hand.
- Body: height and proportions.
- Outfit: presets, with recolorable textures.
With presets you have a cute character in 15 minutes.
Export: click the camera/export icon (top right) → Export as VRM. Choose VRM 1.0 (or VRM 0.0; both work). Fill in the title and author, set the polygon reduction to around 30–70k polygons and the material count to around 8–16, then export the
.vrm.In Okaeri: ⚙️ Settings → Her → Import a model → pick the
.vrm.
Her poses, expressions, blinking and lip sync carry over, and the file stays on your PC.
Download a ready-made model
- VRoid Hub: many characters, free to download when their creator allows it. Each model page shows its usage conditions.
- BOOTH: free and paid high-quality models. Check each item's license, and look for items that include a
.vrmfile (many are Unity packages made for VRChat).
Tips
- Make a new character first (⚙️ Settings → Her → + New character), so each look keeps its own name, voice and memories.
- Keep it light: under about 70,000 polygons. She may spend all day on your desktop, and a lighter model saves power.
- Respect the license of downloaded models. VRM files carry their creator's terms (avatar use, commercial use, redistribution). Okaeri only uses your models on your own PC and never shares them.
